Glass Blowing
A recent tradition
of Vassar Chemistry is the Glass Blowing mini-course taught by Christopher
Smart. The course is open to all members of the Vassar community.
Chemistry Picnic
The chemistry picnic
has become an end-of-the-year tradition where majors, faculty, and staff
spend a summer afternoon outdoors enjoying food and an occasional game of
volleyball. In previous years, the Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology Departments
combined forces!
Quiz Bowl: Tuesday, October 25, at 7:00 pm.
Chemistry Magic Show: Wednesday, October 26, at 3:00 pm.
Chemistry BBQ (photos below!)
One sunny afternoon each year, the Science Quad
comes alive with fun-loving students and faculty of the chemistry,
biochemistry and other departments.
Food, drink, music, frisbee, volleyball,
and more are always abundant at this annual event.
Time to socialize...
Students and faculty gathered for great food, drink, and socializing.
The weather was perfect for this early fall picnic!
Time to play...
There was a lot of energy burning at this volleyball game! Students
from Chemistry, Physics, and Biochemistry departments teamed
up and kept that ball flying!
Time to eat!
Whoever thought ice-cream-making could be so entertaining? With
liquid Nitrogen, the event was a spectacle to be seen! Everyone
enjoyed the tasty results of this demo!
Each year the Chemistry
Department organizes several events to celebrate National Chemistry
Week.
Research Posters will be
exhibited in Mudd Chemistry Building for the week.
In the Science
College Bowl, teams of students, faculty and others compete
for recognition and great prizes! Delicious refreshments.
The Chemical Magic Show is a presentation by students and some faculty of cool chemical demonstrations,
amazing phenomena to entertain our always-packed house! Traditionally, we
close the show with homemade liquid nitrogen ice cream and 6' subs.
NCW 2005 Events:
Chemistry Quiz Bowl
The Quiz Bowl will be held on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 pm. Chemistry students from area colleges competed in this really
fun quiz game.
Chemistry Magic Show
This year’s magic show is on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 3:00. There will be flames, explosions, and pumpkin carving with calcium
carbide! Children and parents had an awesome time.
